11 years ago today this kid came into the world. 

The thing about your first born is that they are the ones that made you a parent.. they are the ones that you experience all the joys and pains of raising kids at various ages and stages with. The bear the brunt of your mistakes, but also light the path for their siblings. 

Lucas is nothing short of an amazing kid. He has this magnetic personality and insanely sweet smile. He's sensitive and tough.  Hardcore and goofy. All at the same time. He's my little man... and soon, too soon, he will be a big man... 

Sunsets and Cemeteries

Last night's sunset found me at Fort Rosecrans in Pt. Loma. After a day of sailing, and a couple dark and stormies, the January evening sky was calling to me.

Fort Rosecrans is a veterans memorial cemetery out at the tip of Pt. Loma in San Diego, an area known for its historic lighthouse and stunning views. At the cemetery the graves either face east, with a view of the sunrise and the city, or west, with a view of the Pacific Ocean and the amazing sunsets. Standing there last night, listening to the horns playing "colors" as they do every night at sunset, I couldn't decide which direction I would want to face...
