Family

So obvious it almost hurts

Scene: Borders Books, Sunday evening

Jason: I'm thinking Lucas needs a new book that's not about Batman or Spiderman

Beth: Yea, I'm sick of explaining who the hell Alfred is too.

Jason: I'm thinking Dr. Seuss... Hhhmm.. do they have Green Eggs and Ham?

Beth: We don't have Green Eggs and Ham?

wait for it, wait for it..

Jason:  We do not have Green Eggs and Ham, We do not have it Beth-I-Am.

I walked right into that one, huh?

A wedding, a weekend away and the fact that Jason and Beth have lost the ability to sleep in a full size bed

This past weekend we made our way half-way up the California coast for a family wedding. If you have never been the Central CA coast, I highly recommend you put it on your list. 887588095_3a9a236a71_m.jpgEvery time we go up there we dream of moving. It's calm. It's picturesque. And there is wine aplenty. Jason's extended relatives have lived there for years, while his grandmother moved there almost 2 years ago. We love the drive up and we always stop in Los Olivos for lunch and a little wine tasting at our favorite little tasting room, Andrew Murray. Alas, this time it was Jason doing the tasting... sigh...

The wedding was a huge family gathering with more aunts, uncles and cousin that we can name888438324_8b7d9b0de4_m.jpg. It was nice though, because this is the first big family gathering that included the newest generation of little munchkins. Lucas and his little cousin Avery were "flower children" in the wedding, and both did a phenomenal job of walking down the aisle to a chorus of "ooohhhss".

We also walked around Morro Bay a bit, dreaming of the day when we will own our boat. The only real issue we encountered this weekend was the full size bed in the hotel room. 887273005_799ddf977f_m.jpgRomanticizing back to a time when a full sized bed was a chance to snuggle, we didn't think much about it. But between the fact that we have become way to used to our king sized mattress and the fact that I account for 1.5 people while laying sideways these days, we had issues.

Inlaw Insanity*

*No, the inlaws are not insane, nor do they drive me insane, its more of overall life insanity due to family vacations and routine upheaval.

This week we got a pleasant surprise visit from Jason's sister Heather and her family. Yes, Heather was "that person" to announce that they were coming to visit a mere 24 hours before they arrived (HAHA HEATHER. Told you I was going to make fun of you forever for that one!). Their trip out to CA was planned months ago, and this year a trip to San Diego was not on the agenda at first. I offered, I begged, and I enticed with thoughts of trips to the warm beach and yummy Mexican food. But alas, they did not bite. That was until last Monday when they realized how much they really couldn't live a day longer without seeing us.  :-)

814814476_1a076f2b99_m.jpgOF COURSE we welcomed them with open arms and an action packed week of kid friendly activities. We did Sea World. We did beach. We did beach again. And we ate. OH, HOW WE ATE.

The kids played and played and played. They ran amok about the house until they could just not muster the energy to run anymore. It's unfortunate that 6 or so states separate us from them, making th814897642_cb68484a53_m.jpgese visits a bi-annual thing rather than a regular occasion like a lot of families. I just hope that they have sweet memories of their summer vacations together.
