En Fuego San Diego - Well, we don't have to name her Princess Fuega

Still here. Have house and baby is still holding tight inside Mommy. Mixed feelings on this. While I would really really like her to come soon, I could not imagine exposing those brand new itty bitty lungs to this horrific air.. oh, plus we needed to spend $200 on a new infant car seat that NO ONE in San Diego had in stock and we had to order online and it isn't here yet.

Oh the air here. SO nasty I can't tell you. I woke up this morning feeling as if I'm recovering from bronchitis or a weekend in Vegas that included me drinking one too many red bull vodkas and thinking it would be cool to smoke a stogie. YAK.

And while as a county we are thrilled the wind is gone - a little onshore breeze would be really nice to clean out this muck about now.

So now comes the aftermath.

You know that the sate of emergency mentality is over when the news starts with 5 minute montage of clips with voice overs from speeches from the Govenator and the President and cheesy music in the background. The other fun part of "recovery" is (for those who work) going back to work to asshole bosses with pep-talks such as "The best thing we can do for the community is to get back to normal and come back to work!" Yea - those people are out there.. I know someone who works for a place like that.. I'll never forget the president of the company that I was working for on 9/11 and his big speech about not closing the office on the darkest day our country had experienced in generations that went something along the lines of "If we close the office, the terrorists win!"

It makes you wonder if people like this are really heartless, cold jackasses or if they are just totally ignorant.

En Fuego San Diego - Insanity Edition

Day #2 of En Fuego San Diego. Updates? Well.. no clue.

Thankfully the winds by us have really died down, but according to the news, they are still blowing in other areas. As Matt Lauer said on the Today Show this morning, "it looks like Armageddon". The sky is still all smokey and the air quality is horrific. I'm dying from some fresh clean air here.

We are all going a bit stir crazy at this point also. Thankfully, Islands restaurant was open today so we were able to escape the house for lunch. And like a trusty friend, Barnes and Noble was there to greet us with open arms. air conditioning and a train table to entertain Lucas for 20 minutes. Oh, and an entertainment purchase of the Transformers movie ... "for Lucas".

For those of you judging us and thinking this movie is a little too old for a 3.5 year old, I have a few things to say to you. #1 You try and entertain a 3.5 year old inside a stuffy house for 2+ days and #2, my kid doesn't really watch movies.. he plays along with them...

Yes, that is a plastic bucket on his head, and a water bottle that is doubling as a "blaster".. yea, he's a strange one.

En Fuego San Diego

File this under the category of "life can not get anymore complicated"... If you don't live in Southern California you may not realize the severity of what is going on here in San Diego. 1691919258_e4b9749ed5_m.jpgWe currently have 8 various fires around the county. The county is blanketed in smoke and white ash is falling like Christmas snow. And yes, I'm freaking out. And sitting here with my legs crossed.

This pic was taken around 7 am this morning - the smoke in the distance..

For the first time in about a week, I'm really hoping to not go into labor. To get to my hospital from here, we have to pretty much drive through an evacuation zone.. my Dr's office is in an evacuation zone... and they recently announced that our "back up emergency" hospital has been closed to all non-life threatening emergencies. 1696596216_91d64c2000_m.jpgWhich, believe you me, if I'm about to have a baby, it will be a life threatening emergency if they try to turn me away. Life threatening for them.. hahaha.

Deep breath.. oh wait, no deep breath.. cough cough..

This picture was taken at about 10 am

We were sitting here debating jumping on the freeway and getting the hell out of Dodge, but the issue with San Diego is that we have 2 freeways that head north out of the county.. and one is currently shut down. So.

This pic was taken at about 1:30 PM - looking west from our house.
