Team Zoe... Rachel Zoe

It's midnight, I'm half awake in a painkiller induced haze, not asleep because I've been snoozing on and off all day thanks to said painkillers. Why? Well, I had 2 inch incision made in my leg this morning to pull out a cyst that ended up being about an inch deep. Oy.

I took the day as an opportunity to lay on the couch and catch up on all my DVR'ed girlie shows that have gotten all backlogged. I also came upon a Rachel Zoe Project Marathon, which you SO know I recorded and watched all of - back-to-back.

And, eekk. I may like her now.

I love her love of fashion and style. I love the way she dresses people and how she can spot something fabulous from the window, driving by in her car. I want her to go shopping with me. I want her to tell me what earrings to wear and that I look Bananas in an outfit. I also want to go to Starbucks with Brad and the make-up boy, and smack Taylor.

After this show, and the premiere of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, I want to shop. Shop like there is no tomorrow. With someone who really knows. I want my body analyzed and I want to be told EXACTLY what to wear to accent my best features, minimize the no-so-great, and look confidant and at my best at all times. I also want jewelry. Fabulous earrings and necklaces.

Guess it's good that the bazillion stitches stretched across my hip bone is going to put me on the injured list till this desire passes.

ObamaMama

I guess you have figured our our political stance by now.. that we are, well, you know.. a little liberal around these parts. But as we like to think, we are liberal because we are smart. I do try, really I do, to see the republican way of thinking. But I just can't. And it KILLS me when middle class people tout they are republicans because they don't like Higher taxes (huh. really? Because YOU are paying the most while the oil companies ((who I guess are not making enough money raping us at the gas stations)) are getting the tax breaks from McCain) and because they will work 3 jobs to pay for their own health care (yea, why don't you see if you can get APPROVED before you spew that! Ever take an ambien to help you sleep? DENIAL. Shit, it's not just a river!)

I really try to be open minded. I do because I believe that's what being a true liberal means, that you are open minded and accepting of others opinions, views and human rights and liberties.

Regardless of what you think tho, I hope that the spirit of what we are experiencing here today touches you in some little way. This summer we got to go to the wedding of two of our best friends because as a homosexual couple they were finally granted the right to legally wed. Today we see a black man accept the nomination for President of the United States. It's an amazing time.

I actually just meant to re-direct you over to DadCentric, where Jason gives a very thorough explanation of why we are pro-Obama. His thoughts, as always, are very amusing and written in such a way that even a Republican can understand.

;-)

What about us?

I don't get very political over here in my neck of the blogospherewoods, I usually save the ranting for Jason while I touch on shoes and lactation. But this is killing us, and since this is an election year, and a time when SOMEONE may be able to do the right thing and help, I need to get this out there.

The Insurance Industry SUCKS.

I know, duh, right? But really. The republicans are fond of saying that there are things out there for everyone, if you just seek it out. Really? So, help me then.

Jason and I make decent money. For the good of our careers and the good of our family, we are both independent contractors. It allows me to be home with my kids when they need me and make a shit-load more money than I did in-house. The big thing that's missing tho, insurance. Why? Because we can't get Lucas covered.

We found out today that he was denied yet again. And before you make a blanket decision and say "well, your kid could have congenital heart defects as a result of his Kawasaki Disease.." let me note, that the second half of the "reasoning" behind this latest insurance company's explanation was because he had ear infections and had to have TUBES PUT IN HIS EARS. Yea, apparently a almost routine procedure that something like 65% of kids under 5 get is reason enough for your child to never qualify for health insurance again. How close to home does that hit you?

Oh, and to add insult to injury, the insurance company still cashed the $600 check we were forced to write to them before they would even consider us.

We make too much money to qualify for the CA State subsidized insurance, but not enough to cover the astronomical cost of the COBRA plan we used to be on that jumped up to about $1,300 right before we ended it. We can't get HIPPA coverage, since we elected to end the COBRA plan. We are firmly stuck in working upper middle class HELL and I'm considering the early morning Starbucks shift JUST to get benefits for Lucas.

I just want to know who's going to help us? You know - the ones down here that paid an additional $9k in taxes last year? The ones who are not "walking away" from inflated mortgages and that are working our asses off to the best parents and earn a living that allows us not to have go on food stamps.

So Mr. Obama or Mr. McCain - you want my vote? What are you going to do for ME and MY family??
